I tried this soft gel freezer pack to try and keep cool at night and I didn't stir once - Manchester Evening News

The gel pack is normally used for sports injuries but it works great in this heat

The heatwave has been excruciating this week, with night temperatures still reaching a high of 29 degrees, trying to sleep at night has also become unbearable, so I tried sleeping with a gel pack, and once you try it, you'll wonder why you've never thought of it before.

To make things better it's an item many households, especially if you're an avid sports fan or gym-goer, already have in their medical cupboard. A sport gel pack, usually used both hot and cold to help muscle injuries, turns out to be a 'godsend' when trying to stay cool at night.

After having a restless nights sleep on Sunday, tossing and turning trying to find one cool part of the bed, I was determined to have a full nights sleep on Monday. And when my partner came back from the gym and took his sports pack out of the fridge, I knew it was worth a try in our stuffy bedroom.

Any gel pack would work, I used the simple Kool Pak that we grabbed on a normal weekly shop in Asda a few months ago, although they can also be found on Amazon. As the heat was a little too much, pushing 40 degrees, I thought freezing it would be a lot more effective than just placing it in the fridge.

All you need to do is place the gel pack in your freezer for a couple of hours, or in the morning before you set-off to work so that it's ready as soon as you walk back through the door.

Then half an hour before you're ready to go to bed, place it under your bedding or pillow, giving you a cool, refreshing bed to get some sleep in. One thing that is a must is to use the cover that comes with the pack, or a towel to stop the pack from making your bedding wet as it defrosts.

Once I got into bed I used the pack behind my neck, as it wasn't too cold to give me brain freeze but was still cool. It's safe to say that I woke up this morning feeling fresh, with no more of the groggy, sweaty feeling.

Argos is selling a £10 12-inch desk fan with timer. What's more, thanks to a cashback deal savvy shoppers can effectively get the fan for free.

Shoppers who sign up to TopCashback get an introductory offer of £10 cash back on a spend of £10 or more at Argos. TopCashback is a deals site that offers its customers money back when they purchase retailers' products. They could also be great to wrap in a towel on your legs, pop on your feet or even place on your forehead, whatever keeps you most comfortable.

One little tip we also used to stay cool, which I think worked great alongside the cool pack, is getting rid of our duvet inner for the night and just sleeping with the cotton cover. If you're like me and have to be covered at night this is one way to do it without being far too hot.
