2022-11-09 16:39:35 By : Mr. Frank Zhang

Welcome to this week’s comics crowdfunding round-up! It’s October 31st, so we have 31 spooky campaigns for you (plus a few extra for good measure)! Check them out!

Creators: Jessica Maison (writer/publisher), Anna Wieszczyk (illustrator), and Joel Rodriguez Goal: $1,150 End Date: November 19, 2022 Goodies: Digital or physical copy, signed physical comic, everyone who backs the campaign by Halloween will get four digital comics/mobile wallpaper, desktop wallpaper, a digital letter of acceptance from Mary Shelley’s School for Monsters, Necro (Necronomicon) campaign sticker, enamel pin, a handwritten spell, and be drawn in as a character in the upcoming longer graphic novel

Discover the supernatural teenage Mary Shelley and the book of spells that made her a monster. Some spells are forever!

This 28-page YA/middle-grade horror mystery is the first graphic novel from Wicked Tree Press. The story follows a young Mary Shelley after she encounters an occult scientist and a living book of spells (a cute version of The Necronomicon) that split her into two versions of herself — one, the literary giant who goes on to write Frankenstein, and the other, a supernatural girl, Shel, who spends immortality fighting evil humans who exploit monsters.

Creators: Becca Kubrick (artist) and Christof Bogacs (writer) Goal: £250 End Date: November 16, 2022 Goodies: PDF of Meat4Burgers #1 and #2, physical copy (either shipped or for pick up at Thought Bubble, Kit Beukes and Geoff Class digital pin-ups, and digital bundle (includes a PDF of Kubrick’s Coby, Alone and Bogacs’ One Last Drink)

When Trace wakes up in VAL-U-BURGER™, they have no idea how they got there and no memory of who they are. The rest of the employees seem pretty blasé about the whole thing. Turns out the same thing happened to them too…

Meat4Burgers promises 40 pages of minimum-wage-infused comedy horror! Recommended by Mayor Good Boy writer Dave Scheidt, the story follows newcomer Trace (they/ them) after they wake up in a mysterious fast food restaurant with nothing but a name tag and a job to do. This comic is for fans of Grady Hendrix‘s Horrorstör, and anyone that has worked as an essential worker (especially if, during the pandemic, you were one of the unfortunate souls risking their lives to pour Richie Rich a beer or serve him an ice cream cone).

Creators: C M Anderson (writer) and Rover Studio (art) Goal: $1,000 End Date: November 10, 2022 Goodies: 5.5″x8.5″ comic printed with soft-touch lamination, t he first issue comes with a standard edition cover and a variant by Jasmyn Arnold, and acrylic ghost cat keychains and earrings made with hypoallergenic surgical stainless steel

Some secrets should stay buried.

Our Faceless Fears is a 24-page psychological horror comic described as a Victorian ghost story that will delight and frighten. The story follows Briar Rose Thornton, a young woman haunted by ghosts trying to teach her why humans are obsessed with their mortality, but will she learn before she becomes a phantom herself? “Briar will learn, as I did, that uncovering the truth can be agonizing,” writes Anderson, whose inspiration for OFF came from her acute struggle with mental health in 2021.

Creators: Ralf Singh (front covers/colorist), Samir Simão (sequential art), David Wilburn (writer/creator), Tim West (logos/lettering/print layout), and Donna A. Black (rear covers) Goal: $1,740 End Date: November 6, 2022 Goodies: Plainer Jane #7  digital copy (PDF) or Kickstarter exclusive physical copy, limited edition (75 total) variant cover, issues #1-6 (digital or physical copies), your name listed as a supporter on the inside back page, artist autographed A4 cover art print, playing cards, original art, set of three stickers, and exclusive supporter packages that include signed cover prints from previous issues, hand numbered and signed variant copies, and/or other “great surprises”

The final issue of PLAINER JANE. The story of a seemingly ordinary teenage girl who becomes a brutally efficient killer for hire.

Stephen King‘s Mr. Mercedes made a big impression on me, and now yellow smiley faces are permanently burned into my brain as the end all and be all of creepy. Enter Broken Face Comics. The imprint’s founder, Wilburn, who some aficionados may know better as David Straitjacket, the Guinness World Record-breaking escapologist, tapped into his inner demons to bring the teenage sociopathic killer for hire to the page. And for all the Plainer Jane newcomers (like me), issues #1-4 are available for free via the Kickstarter page, and so far, Lady Killer Jr. reminds me that… “Killing must feel good to G-d, too. He does it all the time.”

Creators: Ricardo Delgado Goal: $5,000 End Date: November 9, 2022 Goodies: 200-page hardcover or digital PDF of the book, signed edition, 9″x2″ bookmark, three stickers, two temporary tattoos, enamel pin, antler t-shirt, and original artwork

200 pages of demons, witches, vampires, and unholy, deformed, and grotesque monsters from the acclaimed artist of AGE OF REPTILES

Read Ricardo Serrano Denis‘s recent interview with Delgado about The Art of Dracula of Transylvania from Clover Press. The interview not only offers a sneak peek at the book’s impressionistic interior art style but also tells you why vampire fans need another comic about Bram Stoker‘s Count in their lives.

Creators: Michelle Fus Goal: $40,000 End Date: November 16, 2022 Goodies: A high-res PDF or hardcover (signed and unsigned), Ava’s Demon Book 1: Reborn high-res PDF or hardcover (signed and unsigned), signed bookplate sticker, trading card 4-pack, digital wallpaper pack, digital thank you card, Ava’s Demon Sketch Journal, signed/numbered archival print set, and MASSIVE original painting

Ava’s Demon is a webcomic about a girl named Ava and the demon haunting her. Help me continue her adventures with Books 1 & 2!

An ongoing webseries since 2012, Skybound Entertainment‘s 2020 reprint of Ava’s Demon Book 1: Reborn was the most-funded webcomic project on Kickstarter for a NY minute, having raised over $530,310. However, in 2022, Fus was ousted from the position by the fourth collection of Ngozi Ukazu‘s Check, Please!, which raised over $580,099.  Although Ava’s Demon is officially listed as a fantasy/science fiction story, its main character lives with circumstances that count as pretty damn spooky to me. After all, Ava is haunted by a spirit of an ancient alien queen, who only she can see . To know more about why Ava’s Demon is worth backing this Halloween, check out Maggie Vicknair‘s review, “ Webcomics in Review: Ava’s Demon – Animated Worlds.”

Creators: Samantha Haas Goal: $680 End Date: October 31, 2022 Goodies: Full comic plus behind-the-scenes content, character notes, and a fanart section; every physical copy will come with the Kickstarter exclusive sticker; two exclusive prints with all-new illustrations/designs for certain tiers; and Original Redford Paintings in the 7×10-9×12 size range

Criminologist Erie Lockhart recounts the summers she met and befriended Redford Wild, a florist/gardener serial killer in the 1970s.

Ending today, My Neighbor Has a Red Curtain was covered in the crowdfunding round-up on October 3.

Creators: Jacques Nyemb (writer/publisher), Beverly Bambury (editor), Adam Black, Michael Neno, Christine Brunson, Robin Childs, J. Robert Deans, Chris Dyer, Atlas Finch, Camber Arnhart, Aaron Brown, Chris “Chance!” Brown, Pekka Gaiser, J.M. Hunter, Courtney Hahn, Elaine Haygood, Kagan Masters, Cleo Rinofner, Emm Roy, JoJo Seames, and Rob Stenzinger Goal: $3,500 End Date: November 15, 2022 Goodies: Signed physical and digital copies of Frank Holster Mysteries, Black Livin’, and Kooky Stories; signed Frank Holster book and scripts; 1:1 AMA; original art; and digital copies of Not So Super Publishing‘s whole line (Not So Super, Smörgåsbord Squad,  Humanescent, This Bites,  Illegal Aliens Short Comic, NOWzine 2019, and more)

Not So Super Publishing, a Black-owned publisher of thrilling and inclusive books, brings you stories about ordinary people doing extraordinary things, and its newest line of books is bringing readers stories about the horrors of daily life.

Creators: L. K. Ingino (writer) , Illustrated by Alex Guenther (illustrator) , Colored by Mariam Yasser (colorist) , Joel Rodriguez  (letterer), and Chuck Pineau (editor) Goal: $4,000 End Date: November 22, 2022 Goodies: Digital and physical copy of issue #2, digital and physical copies of #0-1, Evan Scale variant cover, Renzo Podesta variant cover, Abby Butler variant cover, Fang paper cube (print and make), digital thank you, phone and desktop background, “Team Fangs” bookmark, “Have You Seen These Men?” postcards, and retailer package

A tortured ex-colonel becomes enslaved to a sarcastic vampiric cat and is forced to do his bidding.

Fangs & Foul Play is about a telepathic vampiric cat in a Victorian town who just wants to eat and has found a human familiar to help him feed! Nom, nom… humans. This PG-13 light horror comic is perfect for anyone who loves cats, Sabrina, The Addams Family, What We Do in the Shadows, and Bunnicula.

Creators: Monica Wasserman (scholar/editor) Goal: $18,000 End Date: November 18, 2022 Goodies: Never-before-published edition of Sonia’s autobiography; Wasserman-signed collector’s edition and leather-bound premium edition; reproduction of the two issues of her amateur journal The Rainbow; a high-quality edition of Euripedes’s classic play “Alcestis,” as interpreted by Sonia and H.P. Lovecraft with a new prologue act written by the two; and a  retailer pack

The autobiography of businesswoman, milliner, writer, publisher, and patroness Sonia Haft Greene Lovecraft Davis.

Wasserman, in partnership with Helios House Press, is publishing a beautiful case-bound edition of Sonia Haft Greene Lovecraft Davis‘s autobiography, Two Hearts That Beat as One. The book shares Sonia’s story in her own words (surprisingly, Lovecraft’s wife and benefactor was a Jewish immigrant), and it is accompanied by many photos and papers from her archives, with a foreword by Sean Branney and Andrew Leman of the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society.

Creators: Elena Morton (art/color), Misty Graves (story/lettering), Old Goat Easel Works (art), Delia Gunderson (art), Britta Naslund (cover), and Christopher Sperandio (lettering inspiration) Goal: $5,000 End Date: December 30, 2022 Goodies: Physical comic, holographic sticker set, and poster by Jim Terry

Misty Graves gains the power to warn people of their ghastly fates before they happen. Can her stories change their fate? Or hers?

It’s the era of brain worms. The human world is on the brink of destruction until Misty Graves finds The Book of Fates, which gives her the power to warn people of their dreadful destinies – one of which is death by a serial killer, while another is death by a cereal killer. In part, inspired by one of my favorite classic horror comics, The Witching Hour, this anthology brings you several tales written by Graves but brought to life by various Kubert School graduates.

Creators: James Tynion IV, Elsa Charretier, PK Colinet, Martin Simmonds, and Tonči Zonjić Goal: $53,807 End Date: November 17, 2022 Goodies: Digitial access to the live-action short film, Room Service;  film poster by Simmonds; Room Service: The Comic Book #1; stickers, storyboard original art; special group Zoom meeting with all three creators; attend the virtual premiere; hang out on set for a full day with the cast and crew;  an 80-page hardcover artbook , designed by Emma Price, that will include James’ script, movie treatment, details on production, Zonjić’s mask design for the Caretaker, interviews, a making-of, and the full short movie storyboarded; and a deluxe print set of five prints

A comic book and live-action short horror film from 3 comic book creators. Plus: original artwork, an artbook, prints, and more

Learn more about the Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for the three comic creators’ short horror film, Room Service, as well as the screenplay’s prequel comics by reading Joe Grunenwald‘s interview with Charretier and Colinet.

Creators: Christina Deljanov (artwork) and Surjit Chana (cover art) Goal: $734 End Date: November 27, 2022 Goodies: PDF or standard edition, n ame listed on “the thank you” page, Colin Work variant, Yaron Betan variant (the sole first-image appearance of the new character A Beautiful Death), Arnold Trinidad variant, Loc Nguyen variant, Becka Kinzie variant, Hugh Rookwood variant, Dan Day variant, Sweet Vitamin Puffs of Fun cereal box (13) that leads kids to go on murder sprees, 3D cardboard poster, and Dalf-Lo handmade cardboard action figurine

The second installment in the Dalf-Lo Breakfast Cereal Mascot Killer picture book/comic book series.

Cereal serial killers? How is that for a tongue twister? It’s the week of cereal killers. Sweet Vitamin Puffs of Fun, a cereal, is the only connection to a series of murders and disappearances spanning decades. Why? Because the cereal’s mascot has been targeting perfect children to join his loyal brainwashed army of cannibals.  This issue also introduces the ‘Enter the World of Mephistopheles’ universe and new deadly characters destined for their own comics in 2023.

Creators: Jonathan Ball, GMB Chomichuk, and Lyndon Radchenka Goal: $2,130 End Date: November 25, 2022 Goodies: Print or PDF edition, special She Wolf print, 60-minute creative consult or Ball will write your comic (you retain rights), and physical copies of The Eye Collector #1-5, The Eye Collector: Down Too Soon, and Cauldron #1

A new horror comic to haunt your nightmares.

This comic is about a female serial killer who believes she is possessed by the spirit of the mythological She Wolf (a myth I most associate with GLOW, but Dante’s Inferno works as well). However, instead of being told from the perspective of those who fear powerful women, the creator states that  She Wolf is a slasher-horror comic told from the perspective of the monster-killer herself.

Creators: Rolands Kalnińš (interior artist), Adam Barnhardt (writer), and Marco Ventura (letterer) Goal: $4,500 End Date: October 31, 2022 Goodies: Digital copy and script book; floppy and variant covers; hardcover edition; and a catch-up Macabre Mel combo pack

Mel inadvertently extinguished the Age of Heroes. Now she’s on her way to Hell to try righting her wrongs in this 56pg graphic novella.

Macabre Mel was covered the week of October 17. Be sure to check it out!

Creators: Kirsten Thompson (creator/writer), Amagoia Agirre, Christianne Gillenardo-Goudreau, Jenn St-Onge, Whitney Cogar, Paulina Ganucheau, Taylor Esposito, Alane Grace, and Little Corvus Goal: $3,000 End Date: November 2, 2022 Goodies: I AM Hexed in PDF format or physical copy, signed edition, exclusive digital wallpaper, “Magic Mural” print, trinkets and charms bundle, and more

The collected 1st volume of all 4 issues of Kirsten Thompson’s original comic about the political struggles of modern-day witches.

From Rocketship, I Am Hexed is a supernatural political thriller that tells the story of witches who want to make a difference. There’s magic, mystery, personal drama, and an accidentally carnivorous plant. The campaign’s goal is to put all four issues of the comic into one collected volume.
