THE sizzling summer heatwave has seen temperatures soar, and many Brits are struggling to sleep as a result.

Desperate to beat the heat and drift off at night, people have been trying all kinds of hacks to cool down their bedrooms.

One woman shared the sleep tip she swears by - filling up a hot water bottle and putting it in the freezer before bed.

Sharing her hack on the Facebook group Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, the woman said: "If you're feeling the heat, fill a hot water bottle no more than 2/3 full of cold water and pop it in the freezer for a few hours.

"It stays cold for hours especially at night. Bliss!"

Hot and bothered Facebook users were impressed by the simple hack, though many warned of one vital safety issue.

Freezing a hot water bottle can cause damage to its rubber material, resulting in leakages next time you use it.

This could result in boiling hot water leaking, potentially causing burns.

As a result, the woman added a disclaimer to her original post, advising people not to use the same water bottle with boiling water again.

Many Facebook users were thankful for the advice, vowing to use the frozen hot water bottle tip for themselves or loved ones in the heatwave.

Meanwhile, others recommended their own unusual cooling tips.

One woman said: "My mum has brought pet cooling mats and uses them to lay on. I thought she was crazy so tried it, bloody worked too."

Another added: "I've been doing this for a long time also work with microwave teddies. I also spray a baby towel lightly and put that in the freezer and lay the kids on it."

A third advised: "If you soak a kitchen towel and place it into a freezer zip bag.

"Its a quick fix. Or fill a freezer zip bag 1/4 with cold water and freeze.

"Once frozen, pop it into another freezer zipper bag and you have an instant cooler or cool pack if you have an injury that requires a cool pack."

Elsewhere, This Morning expert Dr Sarah Jarvis urged people to be wary of ice burns.

After advising tips such as having a cool shower before bed and using a cold hot water bottle, Dr Sarah insisted: "Please don't forget; never put ice directly onto your skin because that can cause ice burns."
